My view of women in sport did change because of this class. It actually changed dramatically. I have always thought that all jocks male or female had it easy. All they had to do was physically show they could play a sport and they received a free ride through everything such as; academics, socially and physically. I never thought about what they actually had to go through such as the troubles it puts on your body to play their sport or pressure to be a certain way. Or that they had to be strong athletes and determined to do well academically or they could not play. Socially women in sport sometimes have to hide themselves to just even fit or they would get ridiculed. All these things I never knew about women in sport made me judge them but with the help of this class it changed my view. There is a lot of things I didn’t know about of women in sport and things I never will understand but this course has taught me to be more open minded and accepting to women in sport.
I used to think that there was no problem with women in sport and that everything was equal among men and women but now I learned that their is a big issue. Society and the population believe women in sport should be a certain way and restrict the success of female athletes. I learned that women in sport are not equal to men in sport. We need to help change this and help others see that there is an issue and fight to make it equal. After taking this class made me see this way and I will now be more aware as well as be part of the change to make it equal.

Final Exam Distance Learning
Have you changed your opinions or views as a result of this course? Why or why not
As a result of this course, I have to say that it has changed my views. This course has covered many different areas regarding women in sport that I never looked at before or even thought about. For example, I never realized that the topic of women in sport was so controversial due to the fact that our society is still holding onto traditional values regarding gender. This course has changed my view on society in this aspect because even though our society has come to allow women to participate in a variety of sports, there are always going to be stigmas attached to female athletes. Therefore, their representation in the media is limited. With that being said, I now know the reason why I do not see as much media coverage of women’s sports in neither television nor magazines, unless they are portrayed with a sexual connotation.
If you could share one idea from this course with others, what would it be, and why?
If I could share one idea from this course with others, I would tell them that this course is not just about women in sport, but it is about our society as a whole and its views on gender. Many of my peers have questioned why I am taking this course as a capstone because they automatically assume that the course is just about women in sport. After taking this course, though, I have come to realize that if we would just take the time to look at things carefully, we will see that our society is still pretty oblivious to many of the stereotypes that exists today, especially in regards to women and women in sport.
